Welcome to YOUR Village!

YOUR dollars are sending children to school right NOW!

Through YOUR donations Village of Love is able to provide school fees to the caregivers in the newest cooperative so that the CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT to attend school. Ruth (left) proudly receives a cheque for school fees from the Project Administrator, Andrew Obara.
Ruth cares for three orphaned children along with her four biological children. She and the 14 other orphan caregivers in the cooperative received a small business micro-loan in July. Already they are saying that they are better able to give their children breakfast and that their families go to bed with full bellies. With the application of further micro-loans, Ruth and other caregivers will be able to not only feed their children, but also keep them in school. This is one of the ways in which Village of Love is very dollar efficient!
However, the children can’t wait. They need to be in school NOW. Wherever children are, they learn something! Unfortunately, on the streets of Kibera, they learn crime, drug dealing, pimping and prostitution. Read more.. A CHANCE FOR ORPHANS.
NOW, through your generous donations, Village of Love can provide supplementary funds to pay for school. Your dollars are keeping children safe and opening doors right now for them to learn and grow into responsible, self sustaining, contributing citizens.
Thank you!

TDSB Principal Discovers The Power of a Pencil!

kijiji, whitfield, classroom talk, small web.jpg“Tell them how important it is to get an education. Tell them that they must work hard!”
With these repeated urgings from local teachers ringing in her ears, TDSB Principal Judy Whitfield addresses dozens of Kenyan classrooms, where eager children hang on her words. Ms. Whitfield was touring Kenyan schools as part of a Canadian delegation at the 6,000 strong Kenyan Principals’ conference in July 2012.

It was evident to Ms. Whitfield that access to education is highly prized in Kenyan society. Seared in her memory is the image of children hurrying to school, each tightly gripping a pencil in his or her fist, as though their life depended on it. Her escort explained that in fact, children’s lives do depend on that pencil…Read THE POWER OF A PENCIL

Kamaro’s Story:

The difference education has made for one boy.

Kamaro’s dream was to attend school and become a social worker. However, when he turned thirteen, he had to fend for himself. His mother was dead and his father very ill. He desperately wanted to go to school, but he had to eat. He sought work as a farm laborer, earning enough money to purchase food and paraffin for a few months. For those few months he attended school, but when the food money ran out he had to work again.
